The Auray MSGN-17 is the perfect stand to use either as a desktop or even as a way to capture the audio from church readers at a wedding for wedding cinematography, which i'm going to use it for it as well. Its gooseneck blends in just like the ones that they use in church podiums, plus, if i need extra height, this stand allows. I got the 18 d version for that reason I just described above. This stand is also great for capturing audio from dance recitals, you know, the foot tapping noise from the dancers which can be placed right on stage at its lowest setting when needed. I also have pictures with this review if you want to take a look. Requires full Desktop browser. The bottom base is nice and heavy and will not scratch your expensive furniture as it has a soft padding at the bottom. It also prevents unwanted vibrations transmitted to the mic, especially on Stage. The mic holder also comes with a 3/8 d adapter if you don't need to use the standard 5/8 traditional mic stand thread. The stand itself without the mic holder is a 3/8 d thread, which allows you to screw in anything you want, not just a mic. Anything that accepts a 3/8 d thread. The entire stand is made of metal except the mic holder, which is expected to be made of plastic for flexing and fitting various types of mics. Pretty happy with this stand.
