The Pixio Auto-Follow System allows you to have your camera automatically pan with you as you move around during a presentation, sporting event, dance rehearsal, and pretty much any other activity, indoors or outdoors. The system features a compact camera support called a robot and a wearable watch that links to the robot wirelessly from 3 to 330 feet away without line of sight required. Attach the robot to a tripod or stand, mount your camera on the robot, and put on the watch. Then, just turn on the system and film yourself. Wherever the watch goes, the camera will follow. The Pixio becomes your own personal camera operator. The robot also has a silent motor, so you can add an external mic to your setup if you d like to record higher-quality audio.
The robot supports up to 5 lb cameras, including DSLRs and action cameras. Any camera that meets this weight capacity can be attached and used to achieve panning motion. But if you use one of the many compatible cameras (see list below), you ll also be able to activate automatic zooming in/out as well as trigger record on/off from the watch. The point of automatic zoom is to keep the subject the same size in the frame as he or she moves closer or farther away. Additionally, the frame size itself can also be adjusted by simply pressing the + or - button on the rear of the robot. The setting is saved into memory and can be used the next time you film.
The compatible cameras offer a MULTI, LANC, or A/V-R connector for plugging the robot into them. The compatible cameras are mostly consumer cameras but also some semi-pro and pro models (such as the Sony PXW-X70). Also, camera not on the list but with one of these connectors is almost definitely compatible for zoom/record capability.
Also included are three micro-beacons that are the key to the Pixio system. They are designed to be placed in different positions in your shooting location using supplied mini-tripods, and they provide the robot with its responsiveness, accuracy, and wireless range (indoors and outdoors). They are also used by the watch to measure its position 10 times per second by a triangulation technique. The micro-beacons don t require any special setup or calibration. Simply position them, and they work as soon as you simply switch them on.
The robot offers 360° endless pan rotation at a maximum speed of 120° per second. It can also be connected to a free-to-download mobile app using an optional interface called smartphone/tablet tripod adapter. The app allows you to control who is filmed from which robot if you have more than one, the tracking smoothness, and more. The robot is designed to be used mounted on a tripod or stand with a 3/8 -16 mounting screw. If you have a tripod with a 1/4 -20 mounting screw, you can use a 1/4 -20 to 3/8 -16 adapter.
The watch is water resistant and features a silicon wristband. It offers three hours of autonomy. You can actually incorporate up to 16 separate watches, each one worn by a separate person, and all 16 can be linked to one robot. In such a scenario, the last one to press record is the one who ll be filmed. You can also incorporate up to 16 robots to film from different angles. The 16 robots can film a maximum of 3 watches at one time, meaning that several robots will have to film the same watch, but the advantage is that you ll have them at different angles.
Rechargeable batteries are included for the robot, watch, and micro-beacons. The robot runs for 4 hours on a single charge, and the watch and micro-beacons run for 3 hours each. The robot and micro-beacons can also be plugged into wall sockets as a solution for filming all day long. And you can keep them all in the same places for as long as you want, even months and years.
Some additional things to know: the robot s tilt angle can be set before filming although DSLRs are compatible, many do not have autofocus in video mode, so you might end up with blurry video the entire system can also be used to live stream the recordings if your camera allows live streaming, and if it doesn t, you simply need to connect a livestream system.
