Canon EOS R5 C VR Creator Kit with RF 5.2mm f/2.8 Dual Fisheye Lens

I have this baby that is incredible, I collect it, I am a filmmaker and what you can do with the Canon R5c is wonderful

I have only had this R5 C for a week but so far I am very happy with the decision to upgrade from the R5 to the R5 C. I have been running it through lots of test shoots. Very impressed so far. Having the Canon Cinema OS is a huge (positive) change from the regular photo OS for me. I was worried that the fan would seem too big and/or noisy but it is no big deal. I did submit a request to Canon asking them to please add in the feature that displays how long the current recording is in seconds. I do miss that feature as I often want to record 10, 20 or 30 seconds of something. What I have gained with the R5C over the R5 is worth the price difference. The 24-105 f/4L is amazing. I previously had the 24-70 f/2.8L and for my needs the 24-105 f4 is a better fit - I like having the extra zoom range.

I'm not sure how to update my 1/30/24 so here is my second review:In all but the easiest of situations, the autofocus is a serious problem...very crippled from the R5. I've been talking with Canon about this for 8 months (with examples).If you get a clean look at a predator or a primate with no interference then it will usually do the job while still back focusing. But forget about it with moose, elk, giraffes, elephants and so on. It's just not usable and you are frequently having to shift to small sport or something else to hit critical focus. Sometimes that isn't even enough and you resort to manual focus. The manual focus is contrast-based meaning that you have no focusing tools in a low contrast situation. Canon is full aware of this yet refuses to provided a firmware update.The amount of time it takes to switch from photo to video mode is too long and makes this camera unusable for anything time sensitive.There is a glitch in the AF system where the AF square usually moves to the upper left or lower right hand corner when the camera sleeps. I guess it depends on the work you do: It might be great for weddings, sports and portraits, but if you are working with wildlife in any kind of challenging AF situations it just isn't where it needs to be.Jack
