PortaBrace MB-1B Matte Box Case (Black)

Use it with lots of cine prime lenses and schneider filters. It's by far the most convinient and efficient mattebox at this price range. Using it with 3rd stage add-on and I am very satisfied with the umb-1. Can also add lots of accesories with it's cheese plate on top and nato rail on the side if you want.

I would rather use it for led light not the mattebox. It is too big for a mattebox system but if you use it for led lights, very useful.

I was a bit shocked when it first arrived as it is larger than I had expected. That wasn't a problem, just a surprise. In fact, the size worked out quite well for my needs. What impressed me the most was the build quality. This bag has super thick padding, I feel like I could drop this off a five story building and my gear would be perfectly safe. The leather used for the strap and handles is top notch. Everything about this bag is quality. Even the way the strap connects (opposing sides) was very well thought out as it makes it so much easier to carry over the shoulder. I would consider more of these for additional equipment if I didn't already have means of storage.

I use this to store my Genustech PV matte box and Redrock Micro follow focus along with a few other things. CONS: I don't think it's really meant as a dedicated matte box case because there's no easy way to carry filter trays or filters built into the case. Also, the top lid is difficult to zipper open and closed around the front corners. The top carry handles fall to the sides when you put the case on the ground. There's no way to stick them together. When you want to pick the case back up, you have to reach down on one side and then the other to grab the two handles, usually with two hands. That's a pain. The fabric inside the case is very soft and pliable which makes it bad for the SUPER!!-strong hook and loop fastener used for the dividers. The main middle-divider is SOOOO stiff that it's very difficult to move around if you don't want to keep it in the default space. Only the main divider and two smaller side dividers are included. It should include more for more organizational options. Strap is very nice, but so overbuilt and stiff that it will never break in to the curve of your shoulder if you are only carrying a matte box and assorted lightweight items in it. Recommend you carry some rocks in the case to break in the strap. ;) PROS: Incredible build-quality of Porta Brace - This case will last a lifetime Materials such as the suede covering on the shoulder strap and handles is very nice and well padded Plush interior (see above) that seems like it will protect whatever you put into it. Incredibly stiff sides and interior insert (see above) means that you can practically stand on top of this case and it won't collapse (I weigh 200 lbs) Comes with a small LED flashlight/carabiner that is kind of cheap but is a nice addition. The flashlight seems ok, but the carabiner will break after a while. Long cords on the zippers definitely help. Nice design on that front. Overall, it's kind of a strange case. I would recommend it for the quality, but everyone has personal needs. There aren't really ANY other dedicated matte box cases for a reasonable price out there. This one does the job, but I'd like different dividers and maybe a dedicated 4x4 or 4x5.65 filter tray holder or case or pocket or something. Most of my other cases are LowePro and they are just so flexible and well thought out, but not as heavy duty. Sorry for the low quality pics attached to the review but they are just for illustration purposes.

It's a Porta Brace so its a solid case hands down. However, this case is a suggested accessory for the Redrock Micro microMatteBox and it is just a hair small so you have to take the rig almost completely apart to fit in the case. If it were a half inch longer end to end and a two inches deeper front to back then you would be able to quickly and easily store that matte box config.

The Porta Brace Matte Box Case is a brute of a case...while it's labeled as a matte box case, it can really serve a number of functions. Not quite wide enough to hold a DSLR with the matte box attached, but still big enough to hold the matte box, filters, French flag, rods, and tripod adapter, and still have room for a small external monitor with mounting gear and batteries.
