Mitakon Zhongyi 50mm T1 Speedmaster Cine Lens (ARRI PL)

purchased it twice, both were non-working, first time it couldn't focus on far objects, second time focus ring wouldn't even rotate. i have no idea why they allow shipping items that don't work, they should have testers. some people living outside USA are wasting their money and time.

T3 80T250-100mm Overall, the image is too soft to use and it's useless until it's stoped down to T3 because of heavy chromatic aberration. The focus gear is really stiff like Irix cine lens so you do want a follow focus gear. If you want T1 brightness knowing all these downsides, give it a try.

I've been sent this lens 3 separate times, because every time I test it for the first time out the box, each never focused to infinity! Also, I could hear and feel the layers of glass on the inside of the lens sliding in whichever direction I would tilt the lens, i.e. taking it out and into it's original product packaging(the plastic box). Another flaw I noticed with all 3 lenses were that the aperture ring seemed to be lose apart from the rest of the lens. The 3rd lens that was mailed to me, I requested extra packaging incase shipping was the issue, and still no, the lens arrived in the same condition as all of the other exact same lenses that was sent to me. I have no idea what is going on with this product or have no idea what this reoccurring issue is caused by. I called back each time to set up a return, but each time is only a sorry, we've never heard of this issue with this lens, but we'll send another (3 times). This experience was sad and maddening. I just want to use this lens!

As is my custom, I test every product right out of the box to ensure it works properly. My preliminary review is as follows: Right out of the cardboard, shipping box, I was disappointed to discover the black, faux vinyl, Mitakon Zhongyi, 50 MM lens holder case had fallen apart at the seams, as if the glue just didn't hold. I am surprised even allowed this item to be shipped in the condition I received it. I was concerned to say the least! I removed the lens from the box and worked both the focus and T stop rings. For the most part the travel action on both rings was smooth except for a bit of grit in certain parts of the movement. I attached the lens to my camera and shot some test footage. At T4 the image was tack sharp and colors nice and accurate. I noticed no chromatic aberration at T4. To me, image quality is most important so I am satisfied with my purchase and will make some more low light tests within the next 30 days to ensure there are no bugs based on the poor condition of the manufacturer's carry case.

I shoot lots of documentaries and sometimes you shoot in places where setting up a good light isn't an option. Yes, this has some significant CA fully open but nothing that can't be fixed in post. Caveat though, it is a significantly heavy lens, hence why it's build quality is superb. Does lean more on warm side but once you know, it's not that hard. I pair this one with Dzofilm's 25 & 90mm Macro.
