SLR Magic MicroPrime Cine 15mm T3.5 Lens (E-Mount)

This is my first cine lens and im loving it, looking forward to buy the other microprimes and see how they work out through the years

I found this lens almost fit my needs perfectly. I shoot full frame and want a very wide option. Most of my work is documentary work, in 3rd world countries, and the size of my kit is important. I like the size and weight of this lens and the build quality seems on point, and the lens fits right into my grouping set of SLR Magic lenses So my feelings about this lens are mixed, but not so much at the fault of the lens. To me, it's all about end result, not lab charts or controlled test nit picking, I find most of those results don't play out in the field. And to that extent, I don't pay much attention to reviews. In my experience with this lens, I did find there was some vignetting, but I'm used to that, many of my wide options have that. If there is a color cast, I didn't notice it. But I shoot in non controlled environments all the time, so I'm always tweeting color in post. I had only two problems with this lens. One is sort of a natural problem with ultra wide. It doesn't work in my matt box, or my screw on NDs, because I could see both in the shot. But complaining about an ultra wide being too wide, seems a bit odd, it's ultra wide. The solution would be to use an adapter with ND plates, but that's not something I want to do in the field. The second issue I had is that I can't screw on my 82mm UVs or ND directly. This is because as the lens goes through its focal range, the front lens actually contacts the screw-on filter before it can finish focusing. That's not a great scenario. I could go without a filter, but I don't like up protected glass. The solution would be to use a setup ring to get the filter further away from the lens, but then the lens is so wide, it's would be seen. So I would need to step up to something wider like a 105mm filter to get it outside of the frame. In the end, I like the lens, but I swapped out with the SLR magic 18mm, thought not as wide, it solved my issues.

This is an awful lens. The vignetting is not just a change in exposure but also color, contrast, sharpness, and saturation. It shifts the image to a blue/green tint near the edge. Skip this lens and get something more reliable. These flares are so stringy and obtrusive. It ruined my image. I will say that the build quality on the outside is very nice, but for the quality of glass, horrible for the amount of money you pay.

I love these lenses, they've been great except for one thing. On the 15mm I always get a nasty, green vignette. The first one I bought I sent back in and they gave me a new one I suppose, because it still had that green vignette. I thought it would be alright, I would just take it out in post and I have. But It's not worth it when you're shooting hundreds of real estate photos. I would suggest not getting the 15mm and investing in a different lens, I get it though, the price is low and they're great lenses! I just wish that the green vignette wasn't there.
