In a portable design with 12G-SDI and HDMI 1080p60 inputs, the Epiphan Pearl Nano can be used for simple encoding productions or much more complex setups thanks to its expansive feature set and versatility, and 4K streaming and recording options are available with an add-on license. This model includes an internal 512GB SSD for ample recording storage.

Pearl Nano features an HDMI program out, zero-latency HDMI pass-through to local monitors, and audio support via dual XLR, RCA, and USB inputs. Streamline your setup even further with the ability to power Nano over PoE+ instead of the included power supply. An SD card slot on the front and an expansion bay supporting M.2 SATA SSDs, allow you to record locally and then automatically transfer the files to a USB drive, local server, or network-attached storage device.

The advanced and easy-to-use streaming and recording functions enable you to integrate the Nano into elaborate productions. SRT encoding and decoding capabilities along with end-to-end control allow the Nano to be used as a contribution encoder for remote guests. Broad streaming protocol support lets you stream to any CDN or streaming server using protocols including SRT, HLS, RTMP, and RTMPS.

You can also design the layout of your choice for your video program with Pearl Nano's custom layout designer. Create anything from simple picture-in-picture layouts to compositions with dynamic backgrounds and other custom graphics.

This device had so much potential but I feel like it isn't completely done. For example, you cannot resize video sources in p-in-p mode like you can with the Pearl Mini. That will be available in a future firmware update. Also, strangely you are unable to switch between p-in-p, fullscreen HDMI, fullscreen SDI. So if you are broadcasting a presentation that begins with no slides, you have no way to fullscreen the camera. Also if you have a presentation that ends with Q&A you are forced to look at an ended powerpoint presentation on screen. I've reached out to Epiphan and they said they tried to make it clear that this is a single channel device. That is very disappointing. I was under the impression we could switch views in Epiphan Cloud, but there is no support for that with this device. Only the other more expensive Pearl devices.

I purchased this about a year ago for its ability to stream on Facebook & YouTube simultaneously. We had used their now-discontinued Webcasters to do this in the past and they worked great, but only streamed to a single platform. Haven't done much recording with it, but the number of possible inputs as well and the web interface make it a reliable streaming option for us. We're about to add a second for another location!
