Elvid SkyVision 5.5" Wireless RX/TX HD Recording Monitor

As soon as I unboxed this monitor, the first impression is that it comes with a nice, thick (temporary factory) transparent film protector that makes it super easy to clean the fingerprints off and without worrying about scratching the screen under. This film is not a dedicated protector but it will still last a long time. You can clean it off even with your shirt when in the field. If removing and exposing the LCD actual screen, then you need to have a super nice cleaning cloth and dust free so not to scratch ANY LCD display, it if you're picky like me. Did I mention this is touchscreen? It is. The monitor is cfeather d light and the plastic has a very nice texture and very durable. Why would I want a metal monitor? To make my camera front heavy and shock the monitor with static? No. Plastic is GREAT. To power this monitor, via DC cable (not included), it accepts a wide range in voltage, not just 12 V. READ the manual for more details FIRST! The main feature that is amazing (to me) is the RECORDING capabilities. That ALONE is worth buying this monitor!!! I always record with 2 cards on my Canon R3 and any other camera I have, and now, a third way of redundancy, adding this monitor recording a third backup. Peace of mind... redundancy, redundancy, redundancy... This monitor is also app controlled and a director or a client, not only they can watch what you 9re filming, the can record the footage on their mobile devices. On the phone, the recording quality is meant for reference only, not something you can edit with resolution wise. Use the monitor 9s full resolution recored video data for that purpose. It 9s as good as the footage that comes out of the camera 9s card. The colors are nearly identical to what I see on my camera's LCD display. A lot of monitors I have, more expensive than this one, the colors are always too warm or too green or magenta. Minimal color adjustments needed in this monitor are near zero, but I still tweak a tiny little bit to negligible levels. I only had to adjust the blue levels to a mere 2%. It 9s as accurate as it can get for the price. The entire menu is intuitive and a pleasure to access and execute and the touchscreen ensures that extra speed and convenience. And again, don't remove that film protector. Cleaning up without being ccareful d with what cloth you use is a breeze. Battery time rundown: Even though, ideally, this monitor accepts two batteries, you can power it by a single battery. With a Sony NPF-970, using a SINGLE battery, this monitor will run for 3 hours and 46 minutes, assuming yours is a 48 watt-hour battery. It doesn't need to be an OEM Sony. Many of us use NON Sony. Many after market batteries will do just fine as long as they are brand new and properly maintained. Add another battery, your runtime will double. It's an all day lasting fun. The Elvid SkyVision has everything I want from peaking, zebra, false colors, masking, aspect ratios, anamorphic, and much more. Another HUUUUUGE plus on its monitor 9s software is that when I'm shooting in cinematic Ultra Widescreen aspect ratio (1920 X 818), this monitor allows me to BLACK OUT anything I don 9t want to see in the frame on the aspect ration other than 16:9 I choose, which makes composition accurate and without having to worry about what could be accidentally left out of frame. That's one of the first things that I urgently wanted to see if it has. I hate when I see a monitor that still shows me entire 16:9 area regardless of the aspect ratio I choose by just matting it a little and not being able to completely add black bars. So' with that said, that's a 10 star rating monitor to me. I'M HAPPY. With 1000 nits It 9s not the brightest monitor out there, but I also tested it outdoors and it's plenty of brightness to be able to work with it outdoors. If you need the full brightness, you can adjust the backlight to 100% and even bump up the brightness, but I recommend the brightness to be at default 50% for better black levels. You can also import LUTS via the INCLUDED Micro SD Card, but I don't need it. I like to see what the actual C'Log is doing in real time.Firmware updates are also done with the card. The only thing I would want them to update on the next firmware is to include 1% c- and + d adjustment increments so as I tap + or - on the extremes of the adjustment blue bars, it would make things easy to critically and precisely adjust such as brightness, contrast etc. Currently, for fine tuning, you have to roll the corners of your index finger which will do fine enough. I hope I've covered everything...I could go all day talking about this monitor. It has a lot of stuff going on..
