Matthews BH-20 Ball Head with 6 Suction Cup Mount

I bought 4 of these to secure action cameras to vehicle on the drift track. They offer lots of positioning freedom and include the camera attachment plate, so you don't have to go looking for a separate solution for that. The first time I used one of these ended in disaster. During a very high-g turn, the suction mount, along with my new FDR-X3000 action camera, went tumbling off the car, bouncing off the race track several times. The vacuum plunger broke off, making the mount unusable. Before trying again, I did some tests and found that one of my remaining three mounts would leak down after about ten minutes, as indicated by the plunger beginning to extend beyond the red line. I then wiped the vehicle and the bottom of the mount with a water-dampened paper towel, then re-did the test. All three were still holding strong after an hour. So, lesson learned, before sticking on a vehicle, dampen the suction cup slightly and you'll get a better grip. I never had to do this with my much less expensive GoPro suction mount, and those are only 3-4 inches in diameter, and no fancy vacuum knob. So, make of that what you will. I will keep using these mounts because I think they can hold a larger camera if needed and I really like not having to disturb the aiming point just to swap out batteries, memory cards or even the entire camera like I would with some mounts, The built-in quick release mechanism is a more professional way to do this and this mount certainly looks the part.
