SHAPE Push-Button Viewfinder Mount for Canon C500 Mark II and C300 Mark III

I liked the flexibility of the stock viewfinder mount that comes with the C500 MKII, but I wanted something that allowed me to push the VF out further for using it on a shoulder setup. I tried a traditional magic arm, but it was a nightmare, constantly loosening exactly when you don't want it to. The Shape VF mount is the answer. It adds flexibility, and stability to the larger C500 MKII viewfinder. Shape's push-button mechanisms are a great design. It holds strong so there's no bouncing or unwanted loosening, but is easy to manipulate when you need to adjust it. And because you are moving one axis at a time, you can adjust it safely with one hand without it falling on you. This is the best VF mount I've ever used by far, the quality is top notch, as you would expect from Shape.

Look it's been great to add some versatility to where the EVF is placed. I can now move it far out in front or to the far left...but not really to the right and that's annoying because I'm contorting my neck to get my eye where it needs to be. To turn this thing to face up or down is not as simple as it seems. The little screws have broken off so the buttons are not working as designed. The thing is always getting loose. You have to fully pull it apart to get it all tight again. In a fast paced work environment this has been a fail for me. It should be tested a thousand times and then again to see how it holds together. That's how often a 10hr day camo day in day out really needs. It has to be reliable and it's just not. Why can't I mount this thing to get it further right? I want to sit my head next to the camera not 30cm off it. I'm always getting my allen keys out to mess with it and it's annoying. Having said all that, it has still been helpful due to a lack of alternatives on the market.

When I got my C300 Mark iii, at first I was using the factory viewfinder mount with my Shape kit, then a friend of mine who had the whole kit told me about their viewfinder mount. I must say, great addition to my kit. So easy to use. Shape doesn't need any introduction for their Push button system.. Very effective and useful so I can put my lcd in any angle I want. Very nice design!

Shape designers should go back to the drawing board and re-engineer this mount. This should have never left the prototype stage. The mount creates more problems than solves them. Canon mount is not very good (it's stiff, bulky, etc.), but this is worse. You're giving up the shotgun mic mount and adding unnecessary size to your rig without getting much in return. For starters, it does not articulate as you would expect. You can't use the selfie or flip-around method. On top of all that, the kit comes with NO manual or any documentation, you'll have to figure it out. It's 3 separate packages that you'll have to guess on how it comes together. Lastly, the packaging itself is anti-consumer. They've separated the fastening bolts into a package compartment which you must cut in order to assemble it. was kind enough to refund it, but other retailers might not. It would be cheaper and more effective to throw an infinity arm on there than to use this. At .300+ you'd expect a much logical solution than the stock mount that comes with C500ii and C300iii.

Before I get started, I just want to say that I love some of the designs and concepts coming from Shape. However this Push-Button VF Mount have been nothing but frustrating for me. To get started, the mounting and concept of this mount is really great! There isn't another part on the market that offers the same versatility like this mount here. However the mounting plate/rod adapter between the EVF plate and the push-button rod can only be secured....ONCE! If you want to make any micro adjustment with the mounting screw, the thread that holds the screw together will get stripped right a way, or maybe after very couple tries. After that you won't be able to lock the VF mount anymore without replacing the mounting adapter. At first, I thought it was only a quality issue that I ran into. However After I get the replacement part, I ran in to the EXACT same issue! From what I've experienced, this is simply a design issue that can be solved by making the mounting piece a little bit thicker and maybe the angle of the screw a little bit different to give more grip to it. So far, it has been a huge miss for me because this piece of equipment cannot survive the abuse and environment it takes on from professional film set/environment long term, not to mention I can not use this equipment at all until it gets fixed. For any future buyers, please be careful with the screw between the VF mounting adapter and the push-button rod. Otherwise this mount will become totally useless once the thread is stripped.
