has the best price for Digital watch dog camera licenses...license is emailed quickly, and you can just cut and paste in the software to have it start recording from new camera's

No issues with the server, licenses are fairly cheap when you consider how much an NVR solution costs and how you can get limited real quick. Used to have two separate NVRs that could only handle 4 and 8 cameras. Now I just need to buy a license to record and put up a new camera.

I run a linux server at home and have four PoE cameras. I tried every open source camera management software I could find and they were all lacking in features and stability. DW Spectrum may seem expensive (and would be prohibitively expensive if I had more cameras) but its features are top notch and after spending the money on cameras and installation it would've been silly to suffer with subpar software. Installation was a breeze. The only problem I had was that it was using my OS drive for storing recordings and did not give me an option to edit the default path or add a new one so I could store it on my ZFS filesystem. The documentation was unclear on what to do in this situation so I called their technical support line and after a long wait I was met with what I can only describe as a hostile support representative. I had a very specific question about how to modify the storage location on Linux and the guy kept saying we won't walk you through the installation process and contact your installer even after I repeatedly explained the problem to him and that I was a DIY user and there was no installer other than me. He even argued with me that the software is free after I voiced that I expected much better support for the cost of the licenses I had just purchased (You can use the software for free but you need paid licenses if you want to record). It was clear he had absolutely no motivation to actually help me with my problem. It's really unfortunate because the product is awesome and would be an easy five star review had their support been even remotely better. In case you're wondering, I ended up solving the problem myself by manually creating a symlink to my ZFS mount so DW Spectrum would write files to the right drive.
